How I’m Staying Inspired

Whether you are a creative person or not, I think it is so valuable to stay inspired in your daily life. It has the power to turn a potentially boring day into a fulfilling and joyous one! So I wanted to share a few ways that I’m staying inspired at home during COVID-19. Hopefully it will give you a few ideas for how you add a little bit of inspiration to your day!

1. Trying New Mediums

I’m pretty sure that my first online purchase after the stay-at-home order was a set of oil pastels. Best decision EVER! I haven’t used pastels since I was a kid, so I’ve had so much fun just playing with this medium again!

If you are thinking about trying your hand at a creative hobby, or getting back into a creative practice, you should totally DO IT! Sometimes it’s just what your soul needs.

2. Listening to Podcasts

When I’m inside doing work, I’ve been listening to podcasts. My favorite is Art for Your Ear, hosted by Danielle Krysa.

Krysa interviews artists on the podcast, and she shares photos of their artwork on her blog, The Jealous Curator. I just love listening to other artist’s stories, how they got started, what their creative practice looks like and what they create! You should definitely check it out if you’re looking for a little motivation!

3. Going for Daily Walks

Nature fuels my creative practice, so getting outside is a must! I’ve been making it a goal to go on walks in our neighborhood every day, and Rosie (our Golden retriever) has definitely been enjoying it! Today we actually went for a run, so Rosie has been snoozing all afternoon.

Try getting a little fresh air daily, especially if you’re staring at a computer screen a lot. A walk can be a great time to clear your mind and meditate or talk to God.

4. Reading

I have read more books in the past month than I have in like a year! Brantley hung our hammock in the backyard, so naturally that’s where I’ve been spending most of my evenings, curled up with a book!

Looking for a good read? I have a whole list of book recommendations for you here!

5. Arranging Flower Bouquets

Our local flower shop, Pine State Flowers, is doing deliveries, so I splurged on a flower bucket subscription! I get a bucket of flowers every other Thursday that I arrange in all of my little vases, and it is the highlight of my day!

It just makes me so happy to have fresh flowers in the house. I typically keep them in the kitchen, which is right off of my studio. A lovely little reminder of beauty in trying times, plus it helps support local flower farmers! You can find Pine State Flower’s subscription options here.

I hope these ideas give you encouragement today to find inspiration where you are. Inspiration doesn’t have to come from a trip around the world, you can find it in your own backyard!

I’d love to know how you are staying inspired in the comments below!
