Sarah Jane Collects: Allison James

With the move to Wilmington, NC, I’ve discovered a newfound love for interior design! I’ve had fun reexamined the pieces we already own, finding them new spots in our new home. And I’ve added a few things, too — rugs, pillows and of course art!

Through this process, I’ve also realized that there are a LOT of amazing artists who have a special place in our home. Each one adds their own story, intermingling with our own, making each space extra special.

So I thought I’d share my collection with you here on the blog in a new series titled Sarah Jane Collects, where I’ll introduce you to the artists in our home! And just maybe, you’ll find someone new to add to your own collection!

First Up: Allison James

Allison is an artist in Perry, GA. We connected back in 2020, and she radiates positive energy, just like her artwork!

“My inspiration spans from fond memories as a child growing up in the gardens, testing color relationships, searching for balance, the ease of big city street style, the subconscious mind, monitoring feeling, all the way to exploring pattern mixing and the conversations around me. I believe that inspiration is all around us... we just have to quiet ourselves enough to see it. So I use ALL of it. I translate this inspiration into my work with moments of grit, repetition, mixed mediums, interesting color pairings and the occasional moment of stillness.” — Allison James

I added three of Allison’s pieces, from her recent release with Liz Lidgett, to our bedroom: “Set Blvd,” “Mel Tote” and “Evolve Me.”

The colors and texture added just the right amount of character to the space!

Allison is always up to something fun, like her new podcast, Here with Allison James. I listened to the trailer earlier this week and I can’t wait to tune into the first episode later today in the studio (I love listening to podcasts while I paint)!

So check out Allison’s work and tune into her podcast for a dose of happiness!
