Waves of Inspiration

Ever since painting an ocean commission at the start of the year, I can’t stop thinking about seaside scenes!

I find that inspiration gently wanders into my thoughts, while I’m working on other projects. So my imagination has been busy painting oceanscapes in blues and greens for months, now!

One morning recently, I set out to the beach at 8 a.m. with a coffee and my art notebook. I did a little sketching, but mostly I just looked and listened — taking in the sounds, the colors and the movements. The salty breeze and the crashing waves have this hidden language that I’m desperate to fill my paintings with!

I’ve started painting the first oceans, and I’m hoping to have a collection of seaside scenes for the summer; but for now I’m just beginning to translate what I’ve been painting in my imagination to real panels!
