The Making of an Italian Summer

When I was ready to begin painting scenes from our trip to the Amalfi Coast, I started by going through my photos and collecting my favorites in a folder. Seaside scenes in Capri to colorful umbrellas in Positano!

I snapped this photo of the charming terrace at Hotel Poseidon (my favorite hotel)! I love how the light is shinning through the canopy. There are so many gorgeous details from the shadows, to the intricate ironwork and hanging lanterns, to the geraniums in full-bloom and outdoor tablescapes. Plus, you have the colorful, cliffside town in the background!

When I’m painting a new-to-me subject I often like to start small, so I decided to create the Italian Summer paintings on paper and frame them! I measured out my sizes, painting two per sheet, cut them out and then popped them in their frames.

“Hotel Poseidon” is one of the most detailed pieces I created, and I love how it turned out! I can’t wait for the entire collection to debut on June 6! To shop early at 10 a.m. EST, be sure to join the email list.
