The Floral Edit

These paintings capture the bouquets of summer, but they’re more than just pretty blooms. They represent the love and care that’s required to grow and flourish. There is so much beauty in the planting and in the harvest!

“If you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it's your world for a moment.” — Georgia O'Keefe

For the final botanical, I decided to switch things up and paint a bouquet created by my favorite local florist, Mother of Wild. I picked up a fall bouquet from their pop-up at Anthropologie.

“I am working at it every morning from sunrise on, for the flowers fade so soon, and the thing is to do the whole in one rush.” — Vincent van Gogh

I styled this sweet floral trio in a milk jar from Maple View Farm in Hillsborough, NC, where Brantley and I had many ice cream dates in college and eventually our wedding reception!

"There are always flowers for those who want to see them." — Henri Matisse

For this still life, I mixed in sunflowers from Trask Family Farms with a bouquet I picked at White Feather Farm. I started with a quick sketch to warmup and then started the painting at my easel!

“I must have flowers. Always and always.” — Claude Monet

Zinnias are stealing the show in this painting created from a floral bouquet I picked at Trask Family Farms. Nothing feels quite so Southern as freshly picked flowers in a mason jar!
