Travel Inspiration

I’ve never been one to sketch while on vacation. I always bring a notebook just in case, but we tend to be on the move a lot, so I turn to photography for documentation. Paris was no exception, so I snapped lots of photos as we explored the city!

I was particularly drawn to:

  • The architecture — the colors and the intricacies of the buildings were delightful!

  • The swans floating along the Siene.

  • And the cafés with their delicious treats and adorable bistro chairs!

On the last night of our quick four-day trip, I started to imagine a sweet, little collection of Paris paintings. So when we got back home (and caught up on sleep), I pulled out my favorite watercolor paper and began to paint!

I started with a pretty window and potted plants against a pink building.

Followed by another building vignette!

Each painting is acrylic and pencil on paper — think travel sketch meets whimsical illustration! They’re 9x12 in. and I plan to mat them so they’ll fit in an 11x14 in. frame.

I’m about halfway through the collection, which will be released in February on my website. Email subscribers will get early access, so be sure to join the list!
