Fall Fun in New York City

We recently spent a couple of days in New York City for a little fall getaway. Autumn in the Big Apple is my favorite, the leaves are just starting to change and the weather is so pleasant, perfect for walking around the city!

When I was fresh out of college, I used to go to NYC a lot for work and to visit friends who lived there at the time. So being back in the city brought back so many fond memories!

Here are a few of my favorite things to do in NYC!

1 — Walk around Central Park.

There’s a lot to see in Central Park, but a few of my must-see spots are Bethesda Terrace and The Mall.

We grabbed breakfast to-go one morning at Le Pain Quotidien and enjoyed it as a little picnic by Gapstow Bridge!

2 — Visit a couple of art galleries.

This trip, we stopped by two galleries. First up, we went to the Ashley Longshore Gallery + Showroom in Soho. Her gallery is just as vibrant as she is, I loved it!

Next, we stopped by Uprise Art Gallery in Tribeca to see Senem Oezdogan’s stunning gradient paintings in her solo show Terranova.

3 — Enjoy a rooftop view.

My first trip to NYC, I went to the Top of the Rock and it’s still one of my favorite views of the city! Brantley and decided to go at night to see all of the lights!

4 — Visit a museum, or two!

I like to pick just one or two museums to visit on a trip, I find more than that is too overwhelming to really enjoy. So we decided on the MoMA and the MET for this trip.

I also wanted to find art by the five women artists in my favorite book, Ninth Street Women by Mary Gabriel — Lee Krasner, Elaine de Kooning, Joan Mitchell, Helen Frankenthaler and Grace Hartigan. (We found all, but one!)

The MET

You could spend days at The MET, so I picked the artists whose work I wanted to see and mapped out our visit ahead of time!

MoMA

It was my first time visiting the Museum of Modern Art, so I was thrilled to spot work by a few of my favorite artists!

5 — See a broadway show.

The tremendous talent and the level of production on broadway never fails to amaze me. We caught two shows, Chicago and The Lion King — both were incredible! The puppetry in The Lion King is an art in itself.

6 — Pick an area and wander.

You never know what you’ll stumble upon in NYC, so I love to just pick an area of the city and walk around. There are lots of little parks, and cute neighborhoods to see!

7 — Eat pizza!

We got to share a beautiful evening with my friend and fabulous artist Valerie Leuchs and her family for pizza. Plus, I got to see her latest painting collection — it’s even more beautiful in-person!

Brantley and I also had pizza at Pazza Notte before we left and it was delicious, I highly recommend it. I can never leave NYC without having pizza (and a good bagel)!

I think NYC will always have a special place in my heart, and I can’t wait for the next trip!
