I have always had this fascination with creeks. My brother and I LOVED going and finding crawdads at the creek behind our great-grandma’s when we were kids. We would beg our parents to ride four-wheelers to the creek almost every week during the summertime.

So when I met my husband and we started going to Bald Head Island with his family, I found myself drawn again to the creek. I snapped lots of photos of the creek and the marsh around sunset, unknowingly collecting valuable research for this series.

The beginnings of this collection started back in September. I listened to Lauren Daigle’s song “Look Up Child” quite a bit as I painted and slowly the story and the message of my work started to reveal itself. For me the meaning behind my paintings grows and forms as the paintings take shape. It’s part of the beauty of the process!

As my studio started to fill up with paintings, the word WONDER kept popping into my head. Seeing a beautiful sky over the water, the reflections, the life, the vivid colors. It’s so welcoming and inviting, like God giving you a glimpse of His love and the majesty of His creation.

So this is the WONDER collection.

I imagine you’ll see your own stories in these paintings. But I hope you’ll also see the WONDER. The WONDER of childhood memories, of the serenity of flowing water, of the glorious colors in the sky above and of God’s love.
